Bringing Back Splashes Of Red In The Kitchen
If you’re like me and find the fact that my first blog post at Jen Paints It All is not about paint a little ironic, stay with me! Because it IS about color & color is something that a lot of people get hung up on when it comes to paint! Plus, I actually did paint my antique buffet….many moons ago though.
My home has always had pops of red scattered throughout….especially in the kitchen. But for a few years I just couldn’t look at that bright, in your face color another second….my soul needed calm….so I packed away most of it.
In the fall of 2020, we moved and put a lot of our belongings in storage while our next house was being updated. At that time, I couldn’t bear to put my granddaddy’s beloved Coke sign in storage so I gifted it to my son Blake as he was setting up his first house. Looking back, that must have been divine intervention because the storage unit was actually broken into and I lost several things that were truly special to me.
Well, now Blake & his family are moving and the sign was once again facing time in storage, until they build another house and again, I could not let that happen so I brought it home and I knew exactly where it needed to go….the kitchen….because that’s where it’s always been! Whatever house we’ve lived in, it’s aways ended up in the kitchen or the adjacent dining area.
After a few years of calming neutrals, this space now feels alive! I “shopped” the house and did some rearranging, brought out a few of my old red pieces I’d had packed away & now I’m just happy with it. This space feels like me again!
